Dear friends and colleagues,

It is with great sadness that we must announce to you that Mr. Marvyn Kussner, our beloved Founding Chairman of the Board, passed away this morning, peacefully and surrounded by his loving family.

We have all been blessed to be touched by Marvyn’s tenacity, his smile, his persistence, his generosity and his kindness.  These are the qualities that allowed PROCURE to develop, to succeed, and to become a sustained force against prostate cancer, both in Quebec, and, with the PROCURE Quebec Prostate Cancer Biobank, worldwide. Thankfully, he lived to see the fruits of his labour and to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of PROCURE.  Throughout his life, and with all the many health difficulties  he  has faced,  Marvyn  never once stopped thinking of the welfare of others and never once strayed from his commitment to make this world a better place.

We know you all agree that it has been the highest honour and privilege to have known Marvyn and to have had him in our lives.

The funeral will be held at Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon West, Friday, June 7 at 1:00 pm.

May his wonderful family be spared further sorrow and may the imprint of his memories, his character, and his contributions to this world last forever.

On Tuesday April 16, 2013, PROCURE was invited by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Réjean Hébert, to the official launch of the “Plan directeur en cancérologie” for Quebec, as well as the “Plan d’action 2013-2015”. PROCURE is delighted to have been invited to participate in the development of this plan over the past months. We want to thank the Minister for officially acknowledging the presence of PROCURE at the press conference. We would also like to thank the ministry and Dr. Latreille, Director of “la Direction québécoise de cancérologie”, for the introduction of a promising plan and express our sincere hope that we can work hand in hand with the Direction québécoise de cancérologie for the implementation of this plan to ensure that all Quebeckers, no matter where they live in this province, have access to the best possible care.  PROCURE would also like to thank and commend La Coalition Priorité Cancer for taking a leadership role, on behalf of community organizations in Quebec who work on the ground every day in the cancer care arena, for ensuring that our voices can be heard and that our work can be integrated into the overall vision for cancer care in Quebec.
